End of lay hens' Free range (End of first season)
These hens are coming to the end of their season of laying and looking for their new homes.
Most of these hens will still be laying when they leave the farm however when they are relocated to their new homes they will most likely start to molt and stop laying for a brief period of about 10 weeks. This period gives the hens the chance to grow a complete set of new feathers and rejuvenate their reproductive capabilities (Egg production).
Once this is complete, they will come back into the lay.
These hens are often better value as they lay a bigger size egg, Size 7 and 8 jumbos in their second season of production and only take 10 weeks on average to resume laying.
